It was Tuesday afternoon and the local eighth grade girls were out early for graduation week. Full of  energy, enthusiasm and with constant supportive chatter, “You are just so pretty, not because you are our friend, but because you just are,” said one of the girls as they tried on dresses at Fabulous Findz.   “When I get married you all can be my bridesmaids and we’ll come here and pick random dresses.”

“I am searching for a ‘new look’ rather than wearing just T-shirts now that I am headed for high school even though I have to wear a uniform.”

Consignment Shop Music

This year as we approach the Easter season, I am relishing in watching customers at Fabulous Findz try on our vintage hats as Easter bonnets.

Easter in my house growing up was almost as fun as Christmas. It was sort of like Christmas part II only we’d get candy instead of presents. My sister and I would go to bed the night before and desperately try to stay awake hoping to hear the hip-pity hop-pity of the Easter Bunny delivering our basket filled with forbidden candy. Never once did I actually see the Easter Bunny or hear the pounding of his paws climbing to our second-floor apartment yet for some reason, I believed in him wholeheartedly. I was always delighted to find that magical basket on the stairs outside our doorstep filled with a little piece of heaven. I wondered how the Easter bunny made it up the stairs without us hearing a peep (no pun intended).

After rushing to the door to collect our little baskets of gold in the morning, we’d then scurry to our rooms to put on a special Easter dress and then we’d head off to church. Church was probably my least favorite part of the day since I really just wanted to get home and eat my candy and watch the Easter parade with Gama (our grandmother) who would enjoy pointing out all the wonderful Easter Bonnets parade-goers were sporting.

These are memories that I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life and Easter will continue to remind me of Easter bonnets, parades and afternoons with my Grandmother.

Three women left Fabulous Findz with their treasures and their promise to return. Their presence reminded me of the joys of shopping with a good friend who laughs, encourages, cajoles and compliments.

These women, having enjoyed a hight tea at Crumpets Tea Room admired their reflections as they tried on vintage hats, coats and jackets. They fingered the antique baubles while carrying on a running dialogue and friendly bantor.

Andover resident, Judith Quarrington, recently acquired ownership of Fabulous Findz Trading Company, a quality consignment shop and Thrift Store in North Andover, Massachusetts.

Quarrington combines her love of collectibles, an eye for the unusual and her business acumen to offer a unique array of vintage clothing, apparel, accessories, antiques, furniture, costumes, art and more. “I search for the right treasures to meet the wide variety of my customer’s needs,” said Quarrington. “If clients don’t immediately find what they want, I can seek it out through my many and varied vendors.”

Originally from Massachusetts, Quarrington returned to the Northeast after working as teacher, school administrator and real estate agent in Arizona for the past 15 years. She previously owned a successful jewelry shop in Sedona, Arizona and is no stranger to the retail business.

A former educator, Quarrington offers a 10% discount to anyone in the teaching field. “I taught for many years and understand the value of teachers to their community,” said Quarrington. “I want to offer teachers a discount to acknowledge their significant and often unacknowledged contribution to society.”

Fabulous Findz is a bright, colorful shop, outfitted with recycled fixtures. The store offers a wide variety of eclectic recycled, treasures. Quarrington is supportive of local artists and craftspeople and plans to host artisan exhibitions and events throughout the year.

Most items in the store are pre-owned and hand selected by Quarrington to assure its fine quality. Quarrington buys from local vendors, and individuals and consigns with many. She encourages everyone to search their attics, closets, garages and basements to turn unused or no longer wanted items into cash for oneself and treasures for others.
